Brun Family

The story of the Brun family in Alaska begins with the arrival of Carl Johan Andreassen Brunstad who was born in Alesund, More og Romsdal, Norway July 3, 1857. He arrived in the United States around 1874, and became a naturalized citizen in 1885, shortening his name to Carl John Brun. He moved to Chignik around 1905, and sometime before 1920 he moved to Unga but later returned to Chignik. He worked as a fisherman but was also the Postmaster at Chignik in 1910, and a cook at a samon cannery there.

He married Marsha Unknown, who died in 1917 after they had at least 2 sons, including Milton and Samuel born 1906. He then married Martha “Mulluk OSBEKOFF. They had eight children before Martha died in childbirth at the age of 34 in 1939. Carl died at Chignik on September 15, 1939 at the age of 82.
