JOHN FRITGOF MARTINSON was born in Hunnebostrand, Sweden on January 26, 1889.
On March 24, 1913, he sailed from Gottenberg, Sweden to New York on the SS Carmania.
John was living in San Francisco, California in 1916 when he registered for the draft for WWI. He listed himself as an unemployed fisherman.
He was in Alaska, living in Dutch Harbor in 1940, and in 1942 when he registered for the draft in WWII. He applied for U.S. citizenship in 1936 in Naknek, Alaska and received his naturalization in Alaska in 1941. He was a fisherman all of his life and worked for Libby, McNeil and Libby for many years. Not long after he moved to Seldovia he became ill and he died on November 13, 1946, at the age of 57. He left no known relatives.
Graveside services were held under the auspices of the Alaska Fisherman’s Union of which Mr. Martinson was a member. Interment followed in the Seldovia cemetery. He is buried in the Seldovia City Cemetery in Plot #181.
