Buried in Seldovia City Cemetery Plot #241

Eugenia Virginia OSKOLKOFF Yuthwas born Dec. 19, 1897 in Ninilchik, Alaska. The Oskolkoff family, headed by a Russian man and Alutiq woman, was one of the first to permanently settle in Ninilchik in 1847. Many researchers believe that Ninilchik developed as a “retirement community” for Russian and Creole families when they chose to stay in Alaska rather than go back to Russia. Oskolkoff descendants, who often married Alutiiq, made up most of the village and spoke a Russian dialect that persisted even into the 21st century.

Eugenia married Matt Yuth in Seldovia in 1921. Matt and Eugenia raised eight children in Seldovia before his health failed and he went off to Sitka’s Pioneer Home until his death in 1952.

Their daughter Virginia YUTH Bailey is buried in the Seldovia City Cemetery, Plot #240.

Their son Hartley Hedwick Yuth is buried in the Seldovia City Cemetery, Plot #268

Eugenia died Nov. 23, 1970 in Seldovia, Alaska and is buried in the Seldovia City Cemetery, Plot #241.
